Avvento

I just realized today that I did not have an advent calendar for this year. So, during this afternoon, in which I did not dear to go out because of my cold, I put together something.
The result is by no means pretty, but I hope it is functional...now we need to fill it in with little presents and surprised.

Cold!

When I was living in California, I kept saying: "I miss the seasons!". And here are the seasons. In the last week the temperature has hardly reached the 0 celsisus. It is not snowing yet, but it is supposed to do it tomorrow. In the morning the frost seems snow.
The clear sky is misleading and tempt me to go out, but as soon as I exit the building I can feel the cold and humid air on my cheeks and nose and on every centimeter of my skin that I left uncovered.
I already caught a cold. 4 years in Santa Barbara weakened my immune system, I guess.

So far I am liking it anyway. I like the cold, I like the xmas markets and the short days which justify me being lazy on the couch with a warm tea in my hands. Times to recharge for the spring. I like this slow rithm, maybe because I am getting slower and less active and I feel that I am coherent with the weather.
Probably in two weeks I will write again wishing to be in the summer, on the beach with the sun, tired of the cold and the winter.
Yesterday we missed the Birmingham Pantomime Horse. A race between men dressed like horses...Brits have some peculiar habits!

Thanksgiving

Decisamente siamo tornati in Europa.

Little afternoon gifts

An unexpected call from California and a nice movie on Beatrix Potter transformed an afternoon that was announcing itself as long and a bit lonely.

We don't need a lot of sweet words or cuddling. Together we have fun and do a lot of things. Chats, laughs, cakes, shopping, naps, housework and a quick trip to London.
I could write forever, but she would not appreciate the spotlight so...thank mum, I love you!

Corners of my home

Following the example of Federica, here are some corners of my home.
Our stuff from California finally reached Italy and a few of them flew with me to the Uk to make this home more "home"...and I am waiting to receiving all the rest!
It is unbelivable how little things, such as something on the wall, or a throw on the sofa` can give a familiar look to a new place. Now I understand why Bruno Munari invented the Statue da viaggio..."small sculptures (some even pocket size) to carry with you, or so you could take part of your own culture to anonymous hotel room".

Updates

I would have a lot of things to talk about, but not so much time at all.
This is my frist Fall in Italy since some years. I am enjoying its colors, its warm days followed by very cold ones, the first snow on the mountains, chestnuts, and the days getting shorter.
Its rain, and the discussions on Italian politics.
I have anjoyed a day out with my dad in Alto Adige, dinners with friends, an afternoon in Bolzano with my girlfriends talking about growing bellies and high school memories. I have seen aunts and uncles, cousins, parents and in-laws, and I feel I am constantly huged.
Our stuff arrived from the US are waiting to be unpacked and organized, but I don't feel a lot like doing it.
All of this, but also the longing to see again whom I left in the UK, I am missing him a lot.

Must you go?

PARIS
The curtain white in folds,
She walks two steps and turns,
The curtain still, the light
Staggers in her eyes.
The lamps are golden.
Afternoon leans, silently.
She dances in my life.
The white day burns.

I shall miss you so much when I'm dead,
The loveliest of smiles,
The softness of your body in our bed.

My everlasting bride,
Remember that when I am dead,
You are forever alive in my heart and my head.

Sometimes I find books that really catch me.
I bought it because my aunt has ordered it to me from Italy. I started reading it on the way back from the shop, and finished it this morning.
It is the diary of Antonia Fraser, the secon wife (for 35 years) of Harold Pinter.
It is not a book about his life, but instead the diary of their love story. A love story so intense but simple, unique as all love stories and very moving. Together until his death, and after.
I reported the first and last poem that he wrote for her...and with my eyes still wet, I start my day.

Italy

I am in Italy and I am going to be here for 2 weeks...it has been raining non stop since two days ago...I have to publicly admit it: When it rains in the UK, it never rains as much!!!
